A Montessori Morning
An example of what a child does during a morning in a Montessori environment by Lindsay Palmer
Currently, our schedule is for mornings Monday-Friday, with Monday drop-off and pick-up at another consistent location for Forest School.
Arrival is between 8 and 8:10 each morning, and pick-up is from 11:50-12.
Mondays, Forest School days, we start with a greeting song, then walk for a while before deciding where the children are most interested in exploring. The children have at least an hour to explore, with minimal interference. We then eat a snack together (prepared and carried by me). After cleaning up, we usually move to another area, this time with more guidance and facilitated conversations. We pack up and walk back, then enjoy a nature-themed book before going home.

Tuesday-Friday, we observe the Montessori three-hour uninterrupted work period, which means children are able to self-direct their morning. They can choose which materials they’d like to work with and for how long, when to use the bathroom, when to eat snack, when to get a drink of water, when to take some processing or down time by sitting in our reading nook or observing out the window. Maria Montessori found in her observations of children that when given this amount of time, children would settle into a rhythm of choosing work that called for deepest concentration. We then transition to outdoor play for the last portion of the morning.
Casa Luminosa charges a daily rate of $24, and for the 2020-2021 school year only charges for the days your child attends.
We operate on a year-round calendar with breaks spread throughout the year, and summer attendance is optional. See calendar below for specifics!
